I wonder if Sammy is still looking white?

LOL

I'm sure he is!

I don't understand why celebs go to devastated countries in that manner. I'm thinking the people want their lives to get straight, roads to be cleared, family members to be found, buildings to be made sustainable for living...

Are they doing any of that? Give the celebrity a break because unless you are actually helping by way of donating or rebuilding etc., you're not helping.

Also, people should check out charity groups before they just give their hard earned cash cause, like that article, a lot of money is given but a large portion of it rarely goes to the place it was intended for.

I will never again give to the Red Cross, they are the biggest group that loses the most money so yeah...do research if you have the time.

I am glad that he is volunteering in Haiti. If he's there to help, then more power to him, because to go there will tear you apart emotionally, mentally and physically. Everytime I see something about it in the news, I break down. I feel so helpless. I hope that he is doing all that he can do there, but if he's there to look around, take pictures and talk about it on FB (inwhich I do not believe that's his purpose), then leave and allow people who are willing to claw someone out with their bare hands or have medical expertise to be in your place.

Actor Vin Diesel visits Puerto Principe to consolidate amid its efforts to help

Santo Domingo. The actor Vin Diesel ran this afternoon Sunday 17 January, several areas devastated Puerto Principe to show their solidarity with the Haitian people, amid efforts that drives the film community to help him with the assistance immediately to the earthquake victims.

Before his visit, the first actor of the Hollywood film industry who visits Haiti's capital following a devastating earthquake, met at the National Palace with President Leonel Fernández.

"I come to see my people to give my support and help with emergency aid it needs," said Diesel, whose foundation, One Race Global Film Foundation, has been conducting for several years with the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (FUNGLODE) a training program for film technicians who last year included four young Haitians who have not been located yet.

Impacted by the collective tragedy, the actor came to Santo Domingo to visit the neighboring country and provide aid and channel amid the disaster that has buried much of the city.

In Puerto Principe, went to the headquarters of the Dominican Embassy, where Ambassador Ruben Silie and the Dominican consul Carlos Castillo told him the fact that to date the city lives. A few meters from the embassy, found in the direct dimension of the incident, when approaching the ruins of nearby children's hospital in the Dominican embassy, which killed an indefinite number of children and adults.

Also approached the giant tomb that became the Caribbean Market supermarket, where they arrived on Sunday a brigade of rescuers and debris management specialists from a company in Florida to take the job.

From the sidewalk of the house of the Haitian prime minister, Jean-Max Bellerive, converted into a camp for hundreds of families who use their gardens as a refuge since lost their homes, saw the confusion that causes distress. Many recognized him when he approached them from behind the fence and smiled surprised at the presence of the actor known through his films.

Several mothers took their children to greet him and presented them with smiles, which was all they had. The actor spoke with words of encouragement.

Students not located

Students who studied in the facilities of the Global Multimedia Institute (IGM) FUNGLODE and have not been located are: Judin Merevus, Sophonie Zidor, Forest Lord and Christ-Blandish Jean.

Balmyra Watson, another student, part of FUNGLODE audiovisual equipment, lost his home but suffered no loss of relatives.

Estudiantes no localizados

Post Re: Sammy Sosa will team up with Vin Diesel to help Haiti!
I just got this CNN news alert, sorry if its been posted.

Port-au-Prince, Haiti (CNN) -- Five days after the earthquake in Port-au-Prince, the fear of going back inside has subsided. But the plazas and the parks are still full.

For tens of thousands of displaced Haitians, there is no place to call home but the streets.

We walked through a sprawling camp outside the presidential palace, which is itself pancaked and shut. There was enough water there Sunday for some of the children to get a bath, scrubbed with kitchen soap, exposed to the crowds.

A garbage truck picked up some of the trash. A small clinic treated children with wounds. There was a little bit of food.

But this is not camping. These people live there, in streets full of garbage, under a very hot sun, with little hope and lots of desperation. A woman screamed to us: "We need help. Haiti needs help now." She introduced us to a man who is not moving, just laying listless in the grass. A child next to him broke into a seizure as we spoke.

At the makeshift clinic, a boy had a foot that was mangled, toes missing. It was bandaged in a bloody, dirty strip of gauze. His head lay in his friend's lap as he waited for medics facing a line of wounded people. There was no sign of antibiotics or splints.

Families are living beneath blankets and sheets, sleeping on concrete or grass. Little children cry from injuries and hunger. Bugs float in the hot air. Trash is backing up, and the smell is awful.

We scaled a viewing tower built by former President Jean-Bertrand Aristide in 2004 to get a wider look at the desperation. From on high, the city looks wounded. Smoke rises in places. Entire streets are closed by rubble.

Everywhere, you see tents in the open spaces. Some are red and gray shiny Coleman tents given out during last year's hurricane. They look like bright little push pins on a vast map of destruction.

We had flown in on a helicopter from the Dominican Republic's capital, Santo Domingo, with actor Vin Diesel.

He sponsors a film program for young Haitians trying to record impoverished lives on their fragile island. He works with Haitian-American musician Wyclef Jean and the Dominican president, Leonel Fernandez. Their hopeful project now finds them on a rescue mission. It was very quiet on that helicopter.

We swung over Port-au-Prince and everyone craned their necks to see below. The hope was that it wouldn't be so bad, that the earthquake had left behind places where people could go home. But no. There are all these sections where parks and plazas used to be that are now crammed with people.

Port-au-Prince's streets now house the homeless.

It's really inspiring for all the effort that makes this country for Haiti," he told Diario Libre Vin Diesel, before you get in a van from the embassy Haiti took him to visit some sites in the Haitian capital.

In Port-au-Prince was photographed with a group of rescuers in South Florida who were working with specialized tools in the wreckage of the Caribbean Market, a place for the upper class, who went down with its seven floors, lots of jewels and some 500 people at that time visiting the mall. Diesel thanked them for the support they were providing. "You inspire me, are true heroes," he said.

From the helicopter had witnessed the devastation of Haiti's capital. So at some point stopped the truck and climbed into the gate of the house of the Haitian prime minister, Jean-Max Bellerive, converted into a camp for hundreds of families who use their gardens as a refuge since left homeless. PUERTO PRINCIPE.

Haiti quake: Aid workers' diaries, Tuesday 19 January

CARLOS MIRANDA LEVY

I have just returned from Haiti, where I was delivering medical supplies, food and support for Relief International, and other institutions. I am heading back there tomorrow with more supplies.

I'm an information and communications technical consultant based in the Dominican Republic. Last Wednesday, after the earthquake, I decided to go to Haiti. I don't work for an aid agency but I wanted to help. My friends advised me against it, but I went ahead anyway.

Once word got out I was contacted by a someone who was trying to get a large trauma kit to Relief International doctors. The kit includes basics such as bandages and dressings, something that was needed urgently in Haiti.

Once I set the ball rolling, things started to move quickly. We managed to get the Infante Sano organisation to pay for the kit, a group of students got a truck with driver for us, a friend bought supplies, tents and sleeping bags, and additional medical supplies, and a teacher offered his 4x4 Land Rover. We were soon ready to go and help.

When we got to Port-au-Prince we handed out our supplies to the Relief International doctors working in a field hospital. They just used the bandages and dressing right in front of me. They had no spare supplies at all. I watched as one doctor dressed a huge, five-day-old wound on a man's head. I fetched more supplies from our truck and they were all used there and then. Even the most basic medical supplies are desperately needed.

I knew that the film star Vin Diesel had frequently visited the Dominican Republic and Haiti. I decided to try and contact him to see if he could help. To my surprise I got through and he wants to help. I am organising a meeting with him, meanwhile I'm planning to go back to Haiti on Wednesday when I hope to take four doctors to Port-au-Prince.

Thanks Bre! I am happy that he does seem to be helping and donating and getting his buddies to help.
One of my friends who works for Abbott Labs said they sent an initial 1 million dollar donation of medical supplies, formula & other nutritional products and will likely send more.
